Postal Letter

Is leaving things in your mailbox for your mailman okay?

I want to leave Cookies for my mailman because I usually just give them to him when he brings me a letter from Fort Benning. ( My Bf is in Basic). I am not going to be home next week so is it okay just to leave a bag of cookies in their so on monday he would get them or is it illegal?

  1. Its YOUR mailbox, so I dont see why you couldn't..
  2. Who would report you? The mailman? Seriously you aren't technically allowed to put anything in the mailbox EXCEPT mail(and you can only put outgoing mail in, just as they can only put inbound mail in it), but no one is going to be reported for something like that. Just like no one gets reported for putting newspapers in the mailbox, what really matters is getting the mail in still.
  3. Does your boyfriend know about your thing with the mailman? What's in the cookies?
  4. Just leave a note on them saying they're for him and hope that he doesn't call out sick that day. People leave tips for their mailmen during the holidays and this isn't different. I don't know if I'd want cookies that have been sitting in a mailbox all weekend though. I'd recommend against chocolate chip cookies since it's almost July and they'll be a gooey mess when he gets them.
  5. It is technically illegal to put anything into anyone's mailbox that doesn't have a stamp on it.
