How many stamps to use without having a scale for USPS mail?

I have heard that based on how many sheets of paper, you can kind of guess on how many stamps to use. Do you know how many sheets of paper = how many stamps to use for standard USPS mail?

1. the standard is 3 pages per ounce. Now if you have very thick paper, it is two. Once you estimate the number of sheets to equal the number of ounces, you can go to www.usps.com and use the calculate postage feature to determine the number of stamps you need.
2. Anything over 13 ounces must be put into the mail stream over the counter at the post office. This is for your safety and mine due to nut cases trying to mail crap that can hurt people. Ask your postman to show you something out of his bag that is the largest size that you can mail without going to the post office. .
