How to ship item to the post office?

I never ship item before. For example I went to the post office with my package that I'm going to sent to someone. What am i going to ask the post office worker?

1. Tape the box up and put the address on there plus your return address. The postal worker is going to figure out how much the postage is by weighing it and seeing how far it has to be shipped. They will also ask you if you want it sent Priority Mail or Parcel Post and if there are any liquids or "rotting meat etc" inside the box. Ask how much Priority is and how much Parcel is, then pick. Pay the money, and that's it.
