Is a career with ups, fedex, coke, and pepsi a good career to have?
My father says something about they're union, and teamsters and they are broke...that there are no benefits, basically that they arent good jobs or careers to have...please help, it all started because I said I was going to get my CDL license, then he said that you can't make good money with that, then went on to say all that about the union ect...

- I think those are all stable companies, but you may not make a lot as a driver.
- I work for a the soda company *coke/pepsi/7up* doesn't matter which 1 but we make $700-$1800/week or atleast 19/hr and yes it's union
- No benefits?? UPS has FREE health care for you and your family. How's that for being broke? If you don't have a family then you'll take this perk for granted. However, if you do have a wife and kids, then you would easily understand the value of FREE health care. UPS Drivers earn 80k+ a year. You'll have to "pay your dues" to become one, taking an average of 4-6 years of working as a part-time package handler prior to being offered a driver's position, but once attained, you could tell the ol' wifey she has the option for being a stay-at-home mom if she wants.. and still be able to provide your family with a great life! Work hard.. find a way to make it happen.. then reap the benefits of your labor.
- Regarding FedEx: Yes, I think it's a good career. FedEx delivery drivers are NOT union, however. Express drivers are employees of FedEx, Ground and Home Delivery are independent contractors. I'm not sure about the LTL, Freight, or Critical Care divisions, but I believe they are not union either. Also, delivery drivers are required to have a minimum of 6 months commercial driving experience in the past 36 months to be eligible for hire. I don't know about the other divisions, but imagine it's similar. Good luck to you - I hope you find a great job!
