Postal Letter

Any ideas on how to prepare for the postal exam?

How do I prepare for the postal exam? And after I pass whats next? I understand Veterans have priority and that disabled veterans have even more. How is this so? Do you have to be in shape or physically fit to work for the post office?

  1. If they are applying for certain protected jobs, Federal law gives veterans five extra points and those with service-connected disability five more. And for some jobs, if they apply within a certain number of days after discharge they get the job automatically if they get a 70 on the test. You can take the test as many times as you want they only keep the highest score. Register for the test three or four times.
  2. I took the test about 10 years ago and scored a 77, when you score lower your put on a waiting list and must renew your interest in the position. Veterens and disabled have the upper hand because of who they are. There was no physical then just study, you can pull up what you need to study on line. It is a tedious test, it was then, but it goes by pretty quick.
  3. There may be practice books for the postal exam at the local library or bookstore. It can be physical in nature even in a postal office as one may need to lift heavy packages. A mail carrier has to do a lot of standing and walking and in all kinds of weather. Perhaps you can look at a job description online.
