How does sending electronics to another country through USPS work?

I want to buy a camera here in the US and then send it thru USPS to a friend in Chile. Please somebody with a similar experience can tell me how much extra I have to spend to send electronics overseas, let say the camera cost $800.00 US dollars, so how much more I will be spending (percentage) like in custom taxes plus insurance?
