Why does the Federal Government NOT Privatize out the US Postal Service?

The US Postal service has been made obsolete by the computer just as delivering mail by horseback was made obsolete by the automobile! What is left of the US Postal Service should be privatized if not eliminated totally. There is No hope and never be any hope for what is left of the US Postal Service to become profitable. I can tell you at least 10 reasons why it should be privatized if not abolished. The main one being that it lost 8.5 Billion Dollars last year alone and has lost money since the computer age begain and will continue to lose money in the future. Eight and a half billion dollars plus a year would go along way towards paying off our national deficit. Second, US Postal workers are over paid in salaries, benifits, perks, and other incentives and will not even deny that fact. Out of fear of losing their most generous jobs they do not report waste or abuse of their coworkers. An example being Postmasters recieve extremely large bonuses. Most Postal Workers are elidgable for retirement but, do not. You do not quit or retire from the US Postal Service instead you die out!

  1. If private were more efficient you'd already be sending your bills and birthday cards via Federal Express or UPS.
  2. they partly have by giving some of their carrier work to UPS or Fed Ex
  3. You should check into a man named Lysander Spooner. He was an anarchist from the 19th century. He created a company called The American Letter Mail Company. This company competed with the US Postal Service and did it more cheaply and efficiently. It forced the US to lower the cost of stamps. When the American Letter Mail Company responded by lowering their costs again the US Government made it illegal to compete with the Post Office and so went the American Letter Mail Company. Anyway, just thought you'd like that. I agree. The market should be allowed to compete with the post office.
  4. If the Postal Service were abolished, who would be willing to deliver mail to the floor of the Grand Canyon or the top of Pike's Peak? This is a serious question. There are people living there.
  5. Actually the USPS is s privatized corporation just like Amtrak but they have never shown a profit due to the fact that they are requiered by Congress to Keep a certain number of post ofices open and they have to run the pension plan for all of the former emplotyees that they havehad so like the Auto Industry the Postal Service will never get out from under is crushing debit unless it goes bankrupt , which Congress will never allow.
