- 21. FIRE Obama and save another 500 thousand a year being paid to an idiot All of the above
- Many of those are good, especially ending farm subsidies, but your preference for cutting transportation funding seems out of place priority-wise. We could save and generate FAR more revenue by cutting other, more useless entities like the ATF, DEA, private prison subsidies, etc.
- all of them would result in massive amounts of job loss for Americans, which would translate to fewer taxable income, and more need to cut spending in the near future. Ending farm subsidies would result in corporate control of our food production from the bottom to the top. A desire of giant corporations that have now positioned themselves to take control, and now want to make sure you believe it is in your best interest to let them. I support throwing tariffs back on products from foreign countries.
- I would support cutting all of those and let's add eliminating the FCC
- Yes it's a good start.
- I'm guessing this list was generated by Republicans. A number of the items are very questionable, in fact I think most of them are. For instance. The Post Office has been self-funding since the Reagan adminstration, when they changed it to the Postal Service. Privatizing it would mean cost increases and cutbacks in service, because the corporation that ran it would be more focussed on profits than on service. Obamacare has been shown by the CBO to SAVE money. You have to wonder how Republicans can come up with a trillion dollars over 10 years. Likewise privatizing Air Traffic Control will make it more expensive and less effective, and it won't save any money because ATC is also self-supporting through fees. Reducing highway funds will only shift more of the expense onto states, and mean more time wasted in traffic, plus making transportation more -expensive-. And so many of these ideas have to do with paying workers less--federal workers (who, despite Republican whining, are not much higher paid than workers in the private sector). And repealing Davis Bacon rules means employers will be be able to pay workers less, so besides further deteriorating the standard of living, it will lead to a drop in income tax revenues. And even then, whatever money is saved, you know Republicans will spend that money three or four times. All Republican 'deficit reduction' plans have ended up ballooning deficits. I have to wonder why Republican voters never seem to notice this. 8^) Reaganism proved to be a disastrous failure, but for some reason conservatives still believe in it very strongly. I do believe we could probably cut defense spending by half and have just as effective a defense. Throughout the Cold War we were told (by both parties!) that half of our defense budget was meant to protect Europe from a Soviet invasion. But when the Soviet Union collapsed, no politician seriously suggested we could now reduce defense spending. We are spending trillions over the next few years to develop the next generation of fighter/bomber aircraft, when the aircraft we have now already guarantee us unquestioned air superiority all over the world.
- I would support all but. 5. Sell excess federal property : 15 billion 6. End energy subsides : 20 billion a year 12. Privatize the US Postal Service: 238 billion in 10 years 14. Cutting NASA Spending By 50 Percent : 90 billion in 10 years. 11. Eliminate Subsidies for Amtrak and End Rail Subsidies : 31 billion in 10 years
