Are USPS Shipping Rates Changing During Holidays?

Hi. A few months ago I requested a quote at the USPS website for shipping a package from Brooklyn, NY to Sweden. The package is 20x20x24 and weighs 50 pounds. I got a quote for $110. However, today I checked again and the price is $170. I called USPS and they said there had been no changes to their rates. Apparently there has been and I wanna know if it goes up during the holiday and wonder if it will come down again? Are there any cheaper ways of sending this package? I really do not care when it arrives, it can take a month, I would still be fine with it. Thank you.

Public Comments

  1. the rate they quoted is the same rate they have had/somebody misunderstood the first time/also usps is the cheapest
  2. Our rates can't change unless Congress authorizes it, and lately they have denied all rate increase requests. I have had issues using the online system to get postage calculated because you have to be very accurate on how many inches and lbs you enter in the system. The easiest way to get postage calculated on something that big is to take it to the post office.
