Does USPS tracking service keep on updating even abroad?

Ive recently ordered an item from the US to be sent to Europe and tracking seems to have stopped once the message of 'dispatched from United States', appeared on my latest tracking service, does it stop there because it goes in international postage?

1. Constantly updating around the world.
2. I did the same from Canada to Europe in December, the tracking stopped once it left Canada. Eventually I phoned the recipient and "Oh yes they got it like 2 weeks ago". I think the tracking ceases once it leaves the sender's country - which makes it next to useless.
3. USPS often doesn't even track within the US. But in most cases their tracking stops at the border. Canada is often one exception.
