Postal Letter

Are there any chances of getting the money back?

In March, 2010 I filled out a money order form for $1,000.00 to send my mother. The guy behind the window just told me to give him everything when I was finished, so I did. Then when I was about to leave the post office I realized I didn't seal the top and the worker told me he would do it for me so not to worry and I trusted him since he was a worker. After a week my mom didn't get the money and we found it strange because from NY to NC it doesn't take over a week to receive a money order. A postal investigator came to my house and showed me a papaer that the worker changed the name on the money order(the receivers name) my name stayed and instead of my mom getting the money a random lady got it. He never gave me the other part of the receipt all I have is the number not the physical one and I am scared because my mom said if I ever do get the thousand dollars back to use it towards school and tuition and no it's to late to go for spring semester I can't go till I get my money back and it seems like the postal people are doing nothing about it. What should I do? P.S. Sorry its so long and I would really appreciate the advice so thank you very much.
