Postal Letter

Does time worked as a TE for the USPS count towards time in a different Federal Job?

I worked as a TE letter carrier for one year and now I am in the process of getting a job as an Air Traffic Controller. Just wondering if the year I worked as a TE transfers over towards my 20 years in the FAA since they are both Federal Jobs.

  1. No, TE is not a Career Position. You did not pay into any of the Federal Retirement systems. There may be specific things at the FAA that MAY allow you to count that time. Military time can be counted towards your service time. It just takes some form filling and payment of a deposit into the retirement systems to cover that period. I would recommend asking about it right away. You only have a 3 year grace period before interest would accrue.
