Postal Letter

How long does it take for the post office to change your address?

I am moving out of my apartment to a new city and am going to fill out one of those forms with the post office to leave a forwarding address. how long does it take to take effect? anybody have any experience? For example, say I fill out the form at the post office Monday and somebody mails something to my old address Thursday, will that get caught and forwarded to my new address in time?

  1. I think the form indicates 3 days to be effective -
  2. You can actually do this online now. https://moversguide.usps.com/icoa/icoa-main-flow.do?execution=e1s1 You can make the change effective immediately and you should start receiving forwarded mail at your new address within a week or so. If you know your new address now, but won't be moving until Monday, the best thing to do is to fill out the form today and make the start date Monday. If you don't pick up your mail between now and Monday, the postal carrier should pull the mail from your box and forward it on to you (or it will be reutrned to sender).
  3. 5-7 business days
  4. As Simpson G indicted, I moved from one city to another city. I completed the change of address on line and placed an effective date on the form. I had no mail interruption at all. I was able to give them a weeks notice of my change of address. There is a hold feature where the postal service would hold you mail for the time you indicate after which it would then be forwarded to your new address. I take little or no time to complete the simple question on the form you would find on line. "I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck. "FIGHT ON"
