whats the difference between fedex and united states postal service ?

i wanna order a shirt and it asks me which shipping method i want . fedex: $7.00 - Smartpost (2-8 days) united states postal service: $7.00 - Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box (3 days) ^ what does small flat rate box mean ? lol . & which one would you choose ? or which ones better ?

1. my dad works for the postal service. HERE IS YOUR ANSWER: they suck! fedex is a good paying job, and well you get vacation time.
2. FedEx is a profitable private company. USPS is a money losing government agency. A "flat rate box" from any service is a standard box that always costs the same to ship regardless of what's in it. You could pack it with feathers or bricks; it still costs the same to ship.
