In a rear end car accident, if an appliance delivery van hit a corner of car bumper in front of it at an angle?

(much like a hammer to a nail) as opposed to on the full bumper (driver swerved to try to miss car, ended up hitting full impact on very corner of bumper, which pushed frame of car up and to the left, could not shut drivers door) wouldn't the force of the impact be greater than if the blow had been distributed over a greater surface area?

  1. The force it would hit with would be the same, the only thing that would have changed is direction the car would go on impact and the distribution of shock. This is all conditional however, as F=ma, the force is the same, just distributed different in your cases.
