Why do conservatives want to cut funding for the U.S. Post Office?

The US Post Office only lost $8.5 billion in 2010. Conservatives always try to make it sound like other companies like UPS, FedEx or DHL are actually turning a profit -- which we all know isn't true since those companies charge less for shipping than US Mail AND they don't deliver on Saturday without a surcharge. I suspect the real reason is conservatives want to break up the postal service union. What is your take on this issue? Progressive Liberal

5. Maybe because it's been so inflated with government jobs and does such a bad job that it's losing billions. Why would you want to continue throwing billions at an entity that continues to gush money? I guess the same reason you'd give a company a "loan" of a couple million when they make a product for $6 and sell it for $3. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how well that will work.

15. Well in general I don't think that people should be forced to pay for things that they don't want. And I'm against a Forced Government System. Some people are willing to trade things that they don't want for things that they do want. And that is somewhat understandable. But the idea of people just being forced to do something against their will is not something that I can understand at all. There are very few cases where people need to be forced to do something so they don't harm others. If you wish to impose something on someone at least offer them something that they desire in return & let them make the decision. And have that something actually be what they want & not some scam. If one does not do that it's what you call a raw deal. Everyone should be able to clearly weigh what they are being offered for what they are being asked to do in return. It's only right. Just sneaking in another oh this is something else we are forcing you to do without telling you why or giving you an offer to accept or reject it makes you just a subject. Not a citizen. Heck most people today can not even choose what country they wish to swear their allegiance to & belong to & which laws they want to follow. And with all of the technology that we have today you'd think that government would have evolved from what we had Centuries earlier. But it hasn't. Calling having 1 Vote that we can use for a "Representative" that hardly represents us & doesn't have to do what he or she was going to do when they were running Democracy is the Biggest Farce there is.

And he spent more from his expense account than your company made in profit, would you say "that's okay, keep spending" or would you fire him? I'd fire him... Company=government employee=post office

Why would someone be in business for themselves if he was losing $$$ every year? With your question you do seem like someone with an employee mentality - someone that cannot bear risk to succeed or is not smart enough to do it. Sorry I am being a little rough - I just hope that you see the error of your mindset. Question: Did you stop paying your mortgage because it was more than your property was worth? Same logic!!
