How accurate is USPS tracking?

I ordered something that went through USPS and the tracking says that it arrived yesterday. It still hasn't come. Is there something wrong? Or is USPS tracking just inaccurate. I tried calling them but they're ridiculously incompetent It's not on my doorstep btw.

1. If you mean it says "delivered", then you'd better go look outside on your front porch. When they say an item has been delivered, they generally mean exactly that.
2. If it "Arrived", it could mean it's at the UPS office and waiting to be put onto a truck to your house. But if it was Delivered, you should have it.
3. Was it delivered to the wrong address? Does a neighbour have it, because you were out? Or it could be at your nearest depot in the van awaiting delivery The Barcode has been scanned to the next process, But it could be sitting in the van, because someone's Shift finished.
