How badly will a dui affect employment opportunities?

(I entered a deal several months back, it was a VERY POOR decision. And I will reap what I sewed). I know it will be a lot more of an impact in this bad economy but as a whole do they completely destory job opportunities or is it more dependent on the job? I also heard after 5 or 10 years that a DUI becomes not even noteworthy if you've stayed out of trouble?

  1. A DUI will alwyas be noteworthy and you should never attempt to cover up any criminal offense, but if you have a clean record for a while it will become a lot less significant. As far as how it will affect you, it really depends on who is hiring you. There are still a lot of people who are against steep drunk driving penalties and believe that unless you hurt someone you should not get in that much trouble. On the other side, you may be a boss who's daughter was killed by a drunk driver, in which case you can kiss that job goodbye! The point is this: a DUI does not make it illegal for an employer to hire you so its completely up to the employer how much it will affect you. It will never help you, but there are many cases where it won't really matter especially if its a first and only offense.
  2. I'm not sure if you tried this before, but there are steps you can take to clear your DUI permanently. Check out the following site for more info. It's definitely worth a try! Hope this helps... p.s. if the link doesn't click, simply copy and paste it in your web browser.
