What do liberals think of the US Postal service cutting 28,000 jobs?
Is it true they think the Postal Service is a jobs program?
Public Comments
- They aren't being cut..It's only through attrition
- It's not just a jobs program, but an affirmative action jobs program.
- Postal Service job is a job like Teachers, Libarians, Construction workers, etc. It is a job. Yes, it is a jobs program. US postal service is being cut by the Republicans in Congress if you are paying closer attention to it.
- System must pay for itself in order to exists. In Asia counties postal service is also a bank. Why US Postal service not learn it?
- I am sure MANDY will say these are still permanent jobs.
- They mourn the loss of all that sorting and distributing of spam mail. Its perfect government make work.
- Here's the poster child for an agency run by the federal government. When will those liberal minds wake up to the meaning of short sightedness ? This is just a prelude to all those government and teaching jobs represented by labor unions. It's coming folks, look out !
- Liberals? It was conservatives who decided that cigarettes and cigars purchased over the internet could not be delivered by the USPS. Nearly $500,000,000 in income went over to UPS. Think that had any effect on jobs? The conservatives actually are trying to bully the American public that "direct deposit" of SS and Disability checks was for our own protection. Do you think the loss of nearly $16,000,000 in that revenue didn't hurt? Before you make inflammatory statements, you might want to know some background. The USPS was privatized some years ago. It is not a government agency.
- Anyone losing their job is terrible. Why would we think differently? The USPS has been in trouble since the GOP Congress mandated the requirement that they prefund pensions for 75 years. They are the only company, private or public, that has been mandated to do that. Remove that mandate, and they are once again a profitable company.
- A. it's mostly a bunch of hick towns that had lame tiny post offices that are being cut... in other words, red states... B. I don't mind it... we don't need to cater to these red necks that can't even cover their own expenses...
- It has too. Everyday, fewer people are using mail to deliver letters. No one thought of Postal Service as a job programs. It is a mail service.
- Whereas the USPS pays for itself without taking a dime of taxpayer's money, hey I guess you've got to do what you've got to do. Sad but.. Guess the unemployment numbers go back up and there'll be more competition for what few jobs are out there, thus driving wages down and transferring more wealth to the 1%. Oh well. Took a lot longer for technology to start them on the road to obsolescence then for it to doom the Pony Express.
