Will research in driverless cars cause job loss or reduction in pay to UPS or Fedex drivers in the next 30 yrs?

Will Google's research into driverless vehicles lead to job loss or reduction in pay to local truck drivers or delivery drivers like UPS or Fedex? These are good well paying jobs that people are proud to call a career. It seems as if automation is on the brink of killing off more middle class jobs. I just hope it doesnt happen in the 30 yrs. or so that I left to work!

  1. Even if driverless technology were to become very mainstream in the near future, it is unlikely businesses would send out delivery vehicles without employees aboard. Someone would have to continually tell the truck where to go, pull the packages, get signatures, and interact with the customers. Just having the trucks drive from one location to another wouldn't make the employee obsolete.
