U.S. Postal Employees: What does USPS Tracking status: "Sorting Complete" mean?

I'm a bit confused about this particular part of the Package Tracking Process. Can any U.S. Postal Employees out there help me understand this phase of the process better?

  1. It means it is sorted to the correct city and deliverer, it doesn't mean it's been delivered but it is where it's supposed to be before it is delivered.
  2. It means it has been sorted to proper destination. You will know it is going to be delivered when you see scanned to arriving zip code/office. Once it is is scanned there, it should go out for delivery that day.
