Postal Letter

Will mail be sent even if it has just the postal/zip code on it?

If I wanted to send a letter to somebody, & I only had their postal/zip code written on the envolope, would it send?

  1. No, because a postal code covers an area not one specific address.
  2. Sure give it a shot
  3. I did that years ago when postcodes first appeared in the UK. Finally made it with notes on like "try xxx road". I think I was about 12. I doubt it would work now.
  4. Eggs.
  5. I don't think so - mail has to be addressed to someone. Even a ZIP+4 code is not unique to one house. If you put the full address without the name it would probably be delivered, though.
  6. It might go to the city where the zip code is, if they don't notice it is lacking the address, but it can't be delivered without the address. You only have the city, state and zip code, not the street address or post office box number. Unless it is a very, very small town where everyone knows who lives where, it will be returned.
  7. The five digit zip will get it to the state and town, or to an area in a city. If you give the name and they have it listed, it will probably get there. Zip plus four (12345-6789) should get it to a street address with no other information. But if that's an apartment building and you don't have the name, it probably won't get delivered.
