How much does the actual envelope cost for USPS Flat Rate Priority Shipping?

I know that the shipping for flat rate priority is $4.60. What I want to know is, when I walk into the post office to buy a flate rate envelope so I can ship flat rate priority, now much will that envelope itself cost me? Is it better to pack in my own envelope and ship by weight?

1. they dont charge for the flat rate priority envelopes or boxes but be careful since they stock them next to the ones you do need to pay for.
