Why does it take so long to mail a book through USPS?

I purchased a book about a week and a half ago from amazon.com and I still haven't received it yet. They said something on the lines of mailing it through "USPS Book Rate" whatever that is? This is taking way too long to get a book.

1. The book rate tends to be super slow. That's why it's so cheap. If you would like it quicker, choose first class postage next time.
2. In Amazon, the USPS book rate is media mail -- and media mail takes anywhere from 7-10 business days to arrive. First, take note when Amazon shipped it -- they usually send a confirmation email that the item has been shipped. Sometimes Amazon doesn't ship an item the moment you ordered it, but only after a few days. Then count 7-10 business days from that date. If it is through an Amazon market place seller (not Amazon.com) then contact that seller and inquire when the item was shipped, if you have not received info that the item has been shipped
