Postal Letter

I have a Felony that is 7 yrs.old and I want to apply for Postal and Civil service jobs can I ?

There is a Civil Service job opening in my area and I am signed up to take the test but I have this old Felony theft conviction and I am not sure if I even qualify to get the job or if I should waste the time of the employer or me?

  1. You may apply. It will require special review by a committee. Depending on the felony in question, you may be considered for the position. If the crime involved extreme violence or drugs, or any postal crime. I wouldn't count on it.
  2. I'm 99% positive you cannot get a job in that area with a felony. A guy I knew couldn't even get a car salesman job with a felony.
  3. you can apply. but you will never get hired if they do a background check.
  4. With a civil service job, there will surely need to be a police clearance on you, and with this kinda of offence, sorry but you're wasting your time by applying, you won't get the job.
  5. Don't even bother.
  6. A felony conviction will automatically get you fired if you are working for the state or the federal government and are arrested and convicted. I would say, No they are not going to hire you with the conviction. Contact the Criminal Justice Department, they will ask for $35 $40 dollars and do a "Live Scan" on you. This will give you a record of the Felony and any other charges, misdemeanors you might have on your record. They all can be expunged. Then you will have to go to the Court where Convicted and get the paper work you need to file with the court and the numbers you need for those papers. Conviction number etc. Some code number. Date of conviction etc. Everything on those papers has to be filled out right. IT IS NOT HARD and they will help you. When you file the papers it is another $60. It could be different where you are. You don't need an Attorney to do this. I think there is a number off the Live Scan paper you might need, I'm not sure. Just keep the papers all together. This will not remove it from your record but it will allow you to plead not guilty on the felony you were convicted of. You don't have to go back into court for it. They usually do it without you present. When you are asked by an employer about it you have to admit to the felony but then you can say it was dismissed. It looks better and allows Federal, State and County Employment to consider you for hire. http://removeit.org/?OVRAW=expunge%20criminal%20record&OVKEY=expunge%20criminal%20record&OVMTC=standard I'm not liking that site very much but it says they can handle any State. The site I used let me down load the paper work I needed to file with the court but I deleted it from my favorites. Sorry. Good luck. Oh, I don't think you should fill out the job application and not tell the truth on it. If they find out they can fire you. Besides you don't want to be refused the job because of your felony conviction. Better to get your record cleaned up.
