How does one get a full time postal carroer job?
My brother went to the USPS website and they are only hiring for casual rural carriers (non-career, fill in).....do you need to know someone to get a full time job with the USPS?

- No you don't need to know someone, that just happens to be all they are hiring for right now.
- Casual rural carriers are probably the worst jobs at the post office. No benefits, odd hours and you usually have to use your own vehicle. Having said that, that job will get your foot in the door, and make it easier to someday work full time with benefits. To be a carrier, you need to sign on as a TE transitional employee. They will tell you it is part time with flexible hours - and the flexible is right - but you'll probably work 50+ hours a week. The good news is you'll get a lot of money because you'll have no time or energy to spend it, and you'll be on THE LIST for a future fulltime regular position. It took 4 years for me, but it usually happens eventually.
- thats all they hire for you have to work as a non career first then you will work and be put on a list depending on what state u are in it could take 3 to 6 yrs to become fulltime. It took me 3 yrs to become fulltime and their were times when i only worked one day a wk but i sticked with it . sometimes if certain states or rural areas need people it may take a yr but again that depends on what are u live in good luck
- Wait, wait, wait. You wait for the test You wait for the interview You wait for the cal back You wait for the start date You wait to make PTF You wait to make Regular You wait to get your first route You wait to get the route of your dreams and by then it's time to retire.
