A question about the USPS forwarding order?
When I left my old apartment back at the end of October, I put in a forwarding order with the postal service. I was in a rush to leave the place and didn't have to time to give my new address to all my old friends. Several asked if I got the XMAS cards they sent. In many cases I did not. Why wouldn't these be forwarded? The post office forwards mail for up to a year and they're not junk mail. Maybe a postal employee can shed some light. All my other mail has been forwarded without a problem. Taking into consideration the answers I've received thus far, is it possible that the post office gets so backed up at XMAS that although its not supposed to be an issue, it actually takes much longer?

- it takes 6 - 8 weeks for your request go follow through and then it takes 2 - 3 weeks for your forwarded mail to get to you. so you may not get your xmas mail until the end of february or beginning of march.
- I just bought a house and a slew of xmas cards came for the old owners. They must not forward christmas cards. Thats the only mail i got belonging to the old owners
- It does not take weeks for a forwarding order to start up and it certainly isn't weeks before it should be getting to you. Any First Class Mail is forwarded, even greeting cards. You should immediately contact your old delivery Post Office to try to find out if there was some sort of problem. A forwarding order is indeed good for 1 year that sends the mail on to you, and another 6 months in which the eligible mail is returned but includes your new address so that the sender is notified.
