Postal Letter

Are people nicer to you when you have your baby with you?

I took a half day from work the other day and took my baby with me to run some errands. I had him in his front carrier facing forward. I went to the same post office I go to about once a week and the same two mean disgruntled postal ladies I see there every week were gushing about how cute he is, telling me all about their (now grown) children, and just all around more kind and helpful. I was flabbergasted. I am usually treated like crud when I go alone. Anyone else have a similar experience?

  1. For sure, without a doubt.
  2. YES they open doors for me and talk to me like I am a completely different person. Maybe with a baby we are more approachable!
  3. most of the time.... some times, rarely, I get nasty looks, but maybe because a) I look young (24 and married for 6.5 years, planned baby) b) I have had a couple people ask me if my baby is mixed race ((she is half Italian, has dark skin, I guess she could maybe look mixed black/white and I live in the country...........))(((this offends me, anyways.)))
  4. Yep, I have something wrong with my hip ever since my delivery, and at the doctors office, people were knocking each other over to come and help me with the babies carrier, all while assuring me that my child was the beautiful thing ever seen on the planet earth. usually, people just break in front of me in line. even when i dont have him with me, if I am buying baby stuff, people want to talk to you and be nice.
  5. We get treated the same with or without baby but we usually get looks like "wow those people have a baby??" We both are NOT your 'normal' looking parents...He has the coolest parents in town! Opps sorry to go on a rant ;)
  6. Yep, completely different. Without my twins, I don't even get a response when I try to spark a converstation. With both of them, I get crowds of people (we're a freak show lol). With only one, I always have several people trying to look at them and talk to me like I'm their best friend.
  7. Oh yea because they want to get closer to the baby. I've had similar experiences but when people try to do that with me, i steer my baby away from them. Its really irritating how two-faced people are nowadays.
  8. when my kids were babies, it did seem that way. i guess it's because they see you as a mother, not just another person. they can relate to you more that way if they have children of their own. they like to reminisce about when their kids were small.
  9. yes, everyone is much nicer when you have a cute little baby with you. Who can resist a beautiful liilte one? People open doors, pick up dropped items, offer to carry bags. the best service in resturaunts, at times i have 4 waitresses around the table. At the chinese buffet i do not even need to walk them up to the counter with me because they love to sit with them until i get back. they literally surround the table. people offer for you to go ahead of them in line. kinda sweet really.
  10. Tons more people stop to talk to me and tons more stop to talk to her. If I'm by myself, strangers never stop to talk to me.
  11. Definitely! People will come up to chat and gush when normally they wouldn't talk to you. I really enjoy it and my daughter does, too.
  12. DEFF! People always fuss over babies....I can never go out without being attacked by some old lady ( I dont mind ) saying how cute my daughter is. Also ppl are more nice...they hold the door for you, and dont push you out of the way at the grocery store.
