Is it dangerous using free USPS Flat Rate shipping boxes wrapped in paper bag for other forms of shipment?

Public Comments

  1. I wouldn't think so. I've used paper bags to wrap up boxes to send to friends and relatives before. You just have to make sure to tape it up by using those non-scotch tapes. Those brown, sticky tapes you might find at Office Depot.
  2. if you are shipping something of value and are too cheap to purchase proper packing then no they are not dangerous, don't worry about it... but you'll get what you pay for. also, if you are concerned with shipping something that you should not be shipping, if you get in trouble for shipping it i don't think an argument of..."well 'killer boot' on yahoo answers said it wasn't dangerous..." will stand up in court. you should consult a professional.
  3. There is a sign in the post office saying that the materials are only for use in preparing US Mail. Therefore, if you take one for another purpose, it is stolen property. But really, the odds of getting prosecuted are probably nil.
  4. It's interesting that you have posted this question to the law and ETHICS board. Yes, it is illegal and it is unethical that you should use a companies free shipping supplies for your own personal gain. Abuse of this sort hurts all that use that enjoy the good bargain that the postal service provides in universal service. If you think you are special, go ahead with your plan. You probably won't get caught. Just don't complain when stamp prices go up in the future.
