Postal Letter

How do I know what address the IRS has on file for me?

I moved back in December, but never "officially" filed a change of address with the US Postal Service. I changed all my bills, and filed my tax return under my new address, but I'm worried about not receiving my rebate. Anyone know how to check?

  1. If you filed with your new address, that is what they will use.
  2. If you move, you have to fill out form 8822 (Change of Address form) or the IRS will only have the last address on file that you filed your tax return under. And, the postman is not suppose to forward IRS checks either...they have to be returned and then resent under your current address. However, it sounds like you filed your tax return with your current address, so I'm sure that is where they will be sending the rebate. You can always call them and ask them what address they have on file for you.
