Does anyone else think that the US Postal service needs to..?
Be junked?...as in,done away with or turned over to a private corp?....they are very prima donna-like,their carriers and other employees clamor for higher rates and wages every year and every year service declines....I think its time for the US Gov to shuck this millstone and spend that money somewhere else...as in reducing the debt....what say you? all I ever hear anymore is complaints about them...the internet does most of what they do now and the rest could be handled by a private company...I get too many catalogs every day anyway But IT DOES need subsidy's to operate..it hasnt been "in the black" for decades...we have been pouring in tax dollars while their employees live the life of riley...no SS taxes, top of the line medical and dental and easy workdays...do you think its time for it to go?

- yes..it was a good idea in the early days and it performed a valuable service but its time has past....in my town they don't even deliver anymore...they give free PO boxes to the citizens and you have to come get your mail at the Post Office..its a waste....
- when looking at what other countries pay for postage, we are getting off cheap.
- they need to lower rates on everything, but as long as they are government owned it will never happen
- I don't think so. It's the only self sustaining government entity I can think of. If it starts needing tax money to operate , that will be different. According to the USPS website ; We do not receive tax dollars for operations. We are a self-supporting agency, using the revenue from the sale of postage and products to pay expenses. http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/postalfacts.htm
- YOU hit a nerve with me. yes the post office already hires sub-contractors to deliver the mail, and they can deny your service whenever they want it is their word not ours. they can stop everyone's mail on a street because of one house they don't like. i am so serious. they forced me to get a p.o. box and various humiliations. i'll bet they still get the pay for the people they refuse to serve as well. the propblem with privitizing the mail is real. they don't care about us either how long would the transition take? too much. the post office is not my fave! i still have to see them just so i can keep my same zip code. they always win.booooooooo!!!!!!!
- WOW! Where have you all been? The US Postal service has been privately owned and operated for some time now. j
- The Postal Service creates a lot of "social welfare" type jobs and lots of public servants that will be receiving government pensions forever. They also, as government employees, get by WITHOUT PAYING SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES!!!! You wouldn't want to rob them of that benefit would you? OH OH! I better watch out. Those crazy postal employees tend to shoot those who upset them. If they loose their jobs, they will have to open government run asylums to care for them. Just being sarcastic of course.
