USPS Postal Flat Charge?

I don't understand it, Priority Mail Rates Weight around 5 lb and at zone 8, it is charged $12 for shipping. That mean if u ship something pretty far in the US, u would get charge about 12 dollars. And also, I try sending this package, not that big weight around 34 lb, it cost me 30 bucks....to send it. According to Priority Mail Flat Rate Box, anything weight up to 70 lb, no matter the destination, is only charged with a flat fee of $8!!!! How is this possible, how is this cheaper but better deal, can someone explain it to me, if this is cheaper, then wouldn't everyone would have used that service?? Priority Mail Flat Rate Box $8.10, regardless of weight (up to a 70 lb. maximum) or destination, for matter sent in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box provided by the Postal Service. That is the exact word from the post office. and here is the website http://www.usps.com/consumers/domestic.h...

  1. For one thing, you have to get to the box from the Post Office (or have it delivered to you) first. Then, you have to make sure whatever you're shipping actually fits inside the box. I've used those boxes before, and I don't know what you shipped, but it was probably too small to fit in the box. It's a pretty good deal, though, so you should pick up a couple of extra boxes the next time you go by the post office just to have them handy. The uniform-sized boxes are probably a lot easier for them to deal with, which is why they encourage it.
  2. My guess is that they used Parcel Post to calculate shipping in order to save money from sending it Priority Mail. The maximum Parcel Post rate is $34.52 for a 34 lb package. http://postcalc.usps.gov/ What did you place in the flat rate box that weighed 34 lbs? Did you buy insurance? All those extras add up....
