i applied for a job at the US postal service..?
not as a mail carrier but for clerical work. what would be my responsibilities if i were to get the job? i also go to school, so I don't know if my hours will be good. have any of you worked this position? is it a difficult job? thanks! noel-you gotta network with people. a family friend works at the post office, so i told him if they're ever hiring he should give me a call.

- Not sure, but how did you get a job? I check the post office website everyday and never see anything.
- there are two crafts in the post office, carrier and clerk clerk can be anything from sorting mail to working the window to customer care helping customers with issues and not directly working with volumes of mail unless you know exactly what you are doing, for example handling mail, thowing chunks or sorting flats, you can't know what your hours are going to be. if you have a window job, you will dress nicer and handle mail for customers coming in. If you are handling mail volumes, wear comfortable clothing and don't wear anything nice, it will be destroyed. I would recommend leather gloves that fit very tightly unless you are working an flat sorter, or one of the LSM that run the DPS. then the surgical style gloves are better. watch out for things that can hurt you like improper lift technique and fork operators as well as the large silver postal containers. IF A RACK STARTS TO FALL (A RACK OF MAIL) GET AWAY FROM IT AND DON'T TRY TO CATCH IT. it could be fatal or crush you. get help with heavy push items, you will destroy your knees pretty fast. also mind your business until you know who is freindly and who is not. NOEL, she is right, if you are a minority are you know someone in the postal union, you can be sure to know about the tests. just cause you are a vet does not help. they hire who they want
- how did you get the job i been trying for years to get in the post office and i cant seem to get in there
